Fremont Cross Country

News Letter #1

Wolf pack News

“Success is a habit, not a single event”

Dear Parents and Athletes,

The Fremont Cross-Country team had an outstanding summer.  We had a lot of fun at our team retreat and all of our morning runs throughout the summer.  Our fundraiser at Marriott Park was a success and the team’s victory at Ogden’s “Mile Race” was a great accomplishment for the team.  The kids have been working hard and I’m impressed with the progress the athletes are making.  We are grateful for the newcomers and we are excited to see you improving each day!

We are led by an impressive group of captains.  Leading the way for the boy’s team are Nick Southwick, and Payden Beus.  The girls are led by Tammy Jacobson, and Cherice Chugg.  We have other returning varsity lettermen including Blakely Charlesworth, Natalie Clark, and Shelliece Harris.  And on the boys side we have Nick Heslop, Jonathon Spencer, Matt Finger, Curtis Hartley, and Kyle Stanger.

A few team rules to be aware of:

  • No Walking at practice or meets!!!
  • Do Not miss practice or meets!
  • Don’t be late for practice (starts @ 2:50)

*Failure to follow these rules will result in expulsion from the team.

Review of the UHSAA Cross-Country rules:
No False Start Rule- Any runner who moves after the set command and before the gun is fired will be disqualified.
No Pacing- If a spectator runs alongside a runner in the race, the runner is disqualified. Yell at anyone who might not know this rule and tries to run along with you.
Cutting-off Athletes- Do not impede another runner from running the course. Make sure you are two full strides in front of a runner before cutting in front of them.
Uniform Rule- All runners must wear an identical team uniform. If a t-shirt is worn under the jersey, the t-shirt must be a solid color and any teammates wearing t-shirts must wear a shirt of the same color. The same rule applies to wearing tights during cool weather (solid color and same among teammates).                                             Jewelry Rule- Athletes are not allowed to run while wearing jewelry. The only exceptions are watches & emergency bracelets/necklaces.
Uniforms: We will hand out uniforms Aug. 28th (this Thursday) at our Weber State practice.  You must have your packet turned in and your activity fee paid ($85), and you must be academically eligible in order to receive a uniform.

Intra-squad

Our first race of the season will be at Fremont.  The race will begin at 3:15 pm.  Wear you racing spikes or flats but you will not be racing in your uniforms for this race.  Our goal for the race is to see how well we can run in our packs.

Grass Relays

Our first invitational will be The Grass Relays this Saturday at American Fork High School.  This race is a great opener for the season.  It eases the athletes into the long distances.  The race is two miles long with many hay bales as obstacles along the way.  The varsity teams run as a relay at the end of the day which makes it easy and exciting for the athletes to cheer on their teammates.
